The Mommy Mentors Project Guidelines

Stories for the Mommy Mentors Project should come from your life experiences. We’re looking for what you’ve learned through these experiences, written to encourage, inspire and help others who may encounter a similar situation.

If you’ve gone through divorce, we want to hear how you came out on the other side better, stronger, more independent and ready to take on the world. If you’ve changed careers, your journey to a successful, prosperous position is the story to share. If tragedy struck, help the rest of us know that there is life after the grief.

In other words, we’re looking for stories to impart hope, wisdom gained from living through difficult times, strength through collaboration, the silver lining in the clouds. The stories are positive and inspirational, and aimed at helping someone else get through her adversity.

The most valuable stories will make the reader feel the emotion you felt, vividly painting the picture of your experiences, and honestly relating your feelings through every step of your journey. Be heartfelt, be real. Don’t be afraid to make the reader cry or laugh with you.

Our first book, Letters to our Younger Selves, will include 12 chapters. Click here to look through the list and decide which category your story best fits. You can also use the topics as story-starter ideas!

  1. You must fill out the submission form completely, including the author’s name and contact information.
  2. Stories should be non-fiction, telling a true story based on your actual experiences, and run between 300-1200 words.
  3. Don’t worry if you feel your writing skills aren’t good enough. We’re looking for feeling and substance. We’ll work with you on editing if your story moves us!
  4. Please do not submit a story more than once. We will read all stories, and will contact the authors chosen to be included in the Mommy Mentors Project.
